Kiddix - The Operating System for Kids!
Kiddix - The Operating System for Kids!

Kiddix was a family-friendly Linux-based operating system and software stack for children. The goal of the OS was to provide children with a safe, friendly, and fun computing environment.
I developed the initial concept for what became Kiddix in 2002 (then it was called Linux Kids), as a way to provide children with a computing environment that designed for their unique needs. By 2005 this idea had progressed into what Kiddix became. In 2006 I founded the company Kiddix Computing as a way to commercialize the technology.
The idea behind Kiddix was not to provide children with a dumbed down user interface. Instead, we questioned the important aspects which needed to be highlighted when designing environments for children. Most major operating systems fail miserably at this (and still do!) due to the one size fits all mentality; that was the problem we were trying to address.
Unfortunately the company disolved several years ago and work on the operating system has since ceased.
